Typical channel activity

[22:50] Topic changed on #sdl by gltron: this channel is full of anime loving shmup playing lunatics that watched to much monty python

If you need a SDL question answered quickly you should try asking here first, and if we can't answer it we'll send you off to the newsgroup or the mailing list where your question will sit eternally in limbo. (Biblical Limbo, not Silver Hawks Limbo)

Topics on this channel vary, about 5% of the time it is remotely related to SDL, but we've been noted to discuss anything from the weather, to what we are eating, to what development tools would make us really happy. Sometimes we talk about absolutely nothing at all.

Pretty much one giant discussion just kind of goes on and on, sporadically stoping momentarily. It flows from topic to topic gracefully and the channels topic is usually the butt of some joke that someone just made. (75% of the time I'm the one who changes it anyway). ChanServ is a vengeful creature who'll deop everyone and ruin our beautiful topics.

Unofficial Requirement Checklist
* I, Jon Atkins, in no way say that playing emulated ROMs is legal. If you follow my advice and become addicted to MAME then do not hold me responsible. If you however become stuck anywhere in R-Type drop by the channel and ask me for help. I will not help you get your grubby hands on any ROMs. They are copyrighted and therefore not free. So there.

Regulars on the Channel
Aka's mug Akawaka (Aka)
Akawaka wrote Abombniball. It's his channel. Aka is rarely listening to the channel, often busy avoiding work or trying to break his code with new features. Aka never sleeps, he says he will sleep but he actually just changes his nick to aka|leaba and stares at his screen until the sun comes up. When Aka doesn't get any sleep he starts typing in what can only be described as mock Norweigian. I've compiled a list of Aka's most prominent typos and it follows the list of regulars. Aka has a page of #SDL Members's Desktops. Akawaka Bonka Rakka...
Everyone, try to shame a new picture from this man! Yorick
Yorick knows how to Blit :) Yorick, like many on the channel is hopelessly addicted to shooting games. Yorick has also been know to frobble. He likes to mess up his filesystem by loading huge images with unstable gimp versions. He talks uncomprehendably to Xark in the wee hours of my part of the world.
? Gltron
Gltron is the author of the successful open source game gltron (wow, a successful open source game). He is also the number 1 user of Kokido's R-Type hint hotline. gltron actually has now gotten further than kokido feels like going in the game, just wait until he tries the sequels :)
? Krelin or crowder
I dunno!
The Overlord overcode
overcode wrote Programming Linux Games. So far one of the most valuable books to get. If you haven't bought it, you are hurting his feelings, and his wallet. overcode does a lot of porting. He also likes TCL for some odd reason.
Bill's mug Kendrick
Kendrick is the author of many many fun and addictive linux games. He joins the channel sporadically, stays for no longer than 45 second and then "Runs". Kokido owes kendrick art that he hopes to give him in his lifetime...
Kendrick is up to version 2...and sometimes even has version 3 of himself.
? Parasite
Parasite wanted to be listed so bad that he sent me a list of typos longer than akas. They are listed below akas now and all I have to say is let the insane typo race begin :) Parasite broke Yorick's computer with an image once. Parasite will subtract you.
Sam's mug
Sam's piratified mug
Slouken (Hercules)
Slouken is the author of SDL, he releases way to many SDL CVS's except when Blizzard Software (his employer) has projects that are near going gold. Slouken is also a question magnet, whithin a few seconds of joining the channel everyone there asks him at least one question. He linked to the old version of this page out of the blue one day.
Rear view coder Briareos (Briareos_Home)
Briareos thinks Kokido is a dork. Briareos works at Treyarch, usually on cool projects that everyone asks him for betas of. Blackmailing him for betas is illegal (plus it does'nt work, kokido tried :-( ) Briareos wrestled The Compiler once.
? Tesmako
Congratulations Tesmako, you finally whined your way onto this page.
Tesmako is not into helping people. Rather he tries to stop anyone from completing their projects by addicting them to anime...
Meanwhile he keeps telling us that he has some game to write...
It's sad when your drivers license photo is your best one Kokido
Kokido is a strange fellow. He really really misses Linux, and is stuck in windows hell right now. He gives free advice about R-Type and tries to contribute smart remarks to any conversation. He is also (barely) capable of answering basic coding questions. Kokido has a very bizaare attraction to video games and Japanese art. Kokido wrote Glutton which runs too damn fast. Kokido claims to be an artist but no one believes him. He is currently going for the title of Vapor King, due to the volume of abandoned projects he has.

Did you really think he'd give himself any breaks :)
? Rhk
Rhk is cool cuz he volunteered to help with Glutton. He wrote SDL_Gui. He watches cartoons but won't admit it like a man :)
LIM
LIM has completed some stuff...but is definitely a member of the vapourware club. He has an incessant want of pancakes, and will torture others about the glories of the flat bread. He has done the SDL_net docs, and has promissed to do other SDL_lib docs but keeps on making more demos for the SDL_net docs instead.
Someday LIM will make a game that people actually might want to play for once.
? xark
xark has a long history of machines he's worked on. He programs games for a living. He is fun to talk to about console games...and old computers.
? tsaotsao
tsaotsao works with Briareos and akawaka at Treyarch. He mostly uses #SDL to chat with them at work. They are making some cool games, and will require all of us to buy them or they will get mad. (not really mad)
wookiee
wookiee is addicted to xmame...he's always up to date it seems. Apparently wookiee is spelled correctly.
? unfy
unfy drinks a lot. other than that...who knows
? matto
matto works on a cool Laserdisc Arcade game emulator. He likes to say HI in exciting ways.
? Tom
Tom is a code master, he can answer any programming questions you have. Tom also once at 12 chili dogs in one sitting. Ask f00f about Tom. Tom only shows up if you are truly worthy of assitance.
? Diablo-D3
Resident troll. Sometimes feigns that he knows stuff, but here's a quote: "What's a stack?". If you want to have an argument...there's no one more willing to help you out.

Ex-Regulars on the Channel (where are these people?)
Aoiushi
Moo... he's now mostly hanging out on #gltron, less traffic there.
? Inful
Inful is a silly Norweigian. Inful stole tom's catch phrase BLiP, but he is sorry. Inful likes to pretend to be Tom in order to hide the truth. Inful hates this page.

Non-Humans on the Channel (where are these people?)
? f00f
f00f is an idiot. To prove it just ask it to do a square root. f00f however keeps the logs of this channel and if you are ever threatened (which occurs during times of great boredom) you will need his assitance. f00f is also a great storehouse of information (much of it completely useless). f00f took a magical journey once.
? Sugar
Sugar can tell you mostly useless info. The "cyber" command is a favorite. The most useful function is "seen"... You can say "hi" to it...
? ChanServ
ChanServ is not actually a regular to #SDL, but is rather a vindictive bastard who hates funny topics and likes to unop everyone in the channel for no apparant reason other than the time of day.

(Ex?)Bots on the Channel (where are these people?)
? SDL_Bot
SDL_Bot is good for notihing except for giving out SDL function definitions. Oddly enough he didn't have a definition for SDL_Init... It does have a certain charm about it though, and it is often missed because of some bit or byte gone to lunch or something. Sometimes sdlbot comes back...

Others on the Channel (who are these people?)
??? Everyone Else
If you are a regular and I didn't list you here then be thankful. Your day of reckoning shall soon be realized, mwa ha ha ha ha. Although, if you want to be listed then find Mr. Pancakes on the channel. Then we'll see...
